I just turned on a LaserJet 4100N and Desktop Mac OS X 10.6.8 after they were turned off for two months. They are connected by ethernet cable via a Mac Airport Extreme. The IP address of the printer has changed. It used to be 10.0.1.5, but now it is 10.0.1.8 (Confirmed by printing the printer's configuration page))
As a result, i can't print anything. I get a message stating "unable to connect to printer". I figured that I have two choices. I can change the IP address of the printer back to 10.0.1.5 OR I can change the printer setup on my computer to 10.0.1.8
Neither worked.... I tried changing the IP address of the printer by going to http://10.0.1.8/hp/device/this.LCDispatcher, clicking on Network, clicking on TCP/IP, and changing IP address from 10.0.1.8 to 10.0.1.5. I followed that by pressing Apply. It appeared to be saved, but when I close that site and go to http://10.0.1.5/hp/device/this.LCDispatcher, nothing connects. Going back to http://10.0.1.8/hp/device/this.LCDispatcher shows that the change did not save.
Then I thought leaving the IP address as 10.0.1.8 and changing the printer setup on my computer from 10.0.1.5 to 10.0.1.8
I went to System Preferences, Print & Fax, Options & Supplies. There I changed "Name" and "Location" to 10.0.1.8. In that same menu "Queue name" and "URL: lpd" kept showing 10.0.1.5 Now it states that Network Host 10.0.1.5 is busy.
What am I doing wrong?
