You may get the PCL XL error utill you autoconfigure the printer. I have networked laserjet 4050's with UPD 32&64bit PCL6 5.8.0 drivers and after installing the printer the test page gave me the error. Because by default under the Device Settings Tab the Autoconfiguration is set to off. So this UPD driver really has no idea what kind of printer it is trying to drive so of course its going to error out. Switch the autoconfiguration to update now and waaaalaaaaa. Rule of thumb is any time you use any Universal Driver you need to make sure the driver detects the device and its features if you want the driver to work correctly.
