There's a flag in the tray...the one that you see on the left side which can be observed to move up and down when the printer feeds paper from the tray.
It's an indicator flag that the operator can see how much paper is in the tray, also.
The back end of that flag attaches to the tray 'pan', and sometimes jumps out of connection...I'd bet that's the problem.
To reconnect it you must disconnect the pan from its' rear mounts...then it's free to move around and be reconnected to the flag.......
