Laserjet 1300 prints smaller font size with Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks

Help, please. I just upgraded to Mavericks from 10.8.6 on my Mac Mini (Intel i5, late 2012 manufacture) and now my Laserjet 1300 printer prints my emails two font sizes smaller (same with TextEdit but not with MS Word). The problem is vexing since all email orders for my small publishing company are printed out for processing.  As a 24-yr plus Mac and HP printer user, I suspected a reinstall of the 1300's print driver would remedy the problem, but the catch 22 is I'm unable to coax Apple Software Update to provide the driver to download (likely ASU when queried determined I already have the latest driver). Nor have I been able to find any print setting options within Mail or TextEdit prefs (or elsewhere) that may solve the issue.

I followed all of the latest Mavericks advisories/instructions on HP.com, such as deleting the 1300 from the printer cue in the Printer & Scanners window of System Preferences, restarting, and hoping this would trick ASU into coughing up the 1300 driver update. No such luck.  Note: I have the orig. 1300 driver install disk from 2003  but I'm quite certain it would be unreadable at this juncture.

FWIW, my posts on Apple community forums about this issue have elicited zero replies. Even my IT consultant is stumped.

Any assistance would be grately appreciated. Thanks in advance!

John in the Northwest.
