Sounds like you may be having formatter issues which is common on this printer. Sometimes you can repair it yourself. You remove the right side cover and the board with the cables going to it is the formatter. Remove the cables and remove the screws that secure the formatter to the printer. Remove any added memory from the one slot and also remove the tape by that slot. Now place the board in a baking pan with the chips facing up and propped up so the bottom of the board does not touch the bottom of the pan. Now preheat a good oven to 350F (177C) and when the oven is ready, place the pan with the board in the over for 8 minutes. Remove a let cool for 15 minutes. Place back in the printer, connect all the cable and cross your fingers and hopefully all will be good. This formatter had a issue with cold solder joints on the main processor that caused all sorts of issues, especially freezing. Baking reflows the solder and most times corrects the problem. Good Luck.
