Ok, this is a continuing issue now going on over 3 years as you can see from the date of my original post. I finally gave up on trying to get the HP Color Laser 3600 to work on the brand new HP laptop. I have read many posts on the open forum from people with exactly the same issue. All having exactly the same results. There seems to be NO support from HP. If it is such a prevelant issue, why does HP allow it to continue? This clearly indicates a lack of concern on the part of HP. If HP seems to think there is some kind of hack method using Vista instead of Win 7 or 8. Why does HP not just issue clear instuctions to explain how to do it, without the reference to Vista?
So now I have acquired a new ASUS with Windows 8.1 And thought I would try to get the HP CLJ 3600 another go, since it is still very unused. And has been doing nothing since I bought it brand new over 3 years ago and never could get it to work on my HP laptop. I just gave up on that.
So here I am again, with the same issue running Win 8.1.
These instructions are very unclear. They start out instructing to "follow these steps". Really? Which steps? The ones outlined below,...or the new unclear one above, hidden in the comment referencing Win Vista? At what point in the steps do you follow the instructions above about Vista or the ones below, because that is what the first instruction was..."follow these steps" At what point do you disregard one instruction to follow the other. Asssinine to say the least.
So the end result...and I am not sure, which one really, gave me this result. All I know is that the window that popped up clearly indicated that that is was successfully installed. Except that the driver was not there. This is like someone telling you the check is in the mail. And yes the envelope arrives, but there is nothing in it. This is what I am showing now. And still no working printer functionality.
