Re: I/O Menu item missing on HP 4600dn

First thing you need to do is run a config page from the information menu on the printer. Do you get a second page with network information. If not the network card in the printer has gone bad. If that is the case you can sometimes repair it as most came with the 610N or 615N. To repair and this is no joke, you need to remove the card with the power off and then remove the plastic back piece for which you will need a torx10 driver. Once the plastic piece is remove, prop the card up in a baking pan with the chips facing up and the bottom of the card not touching the pan. Preheat a good oven to 350F (177C) and when the oven is ready, place the pan with the card in the oven for 8 minutes. Remove and let cool for 15 minutes. Reattach the back piece and with power off place back in the printer eio slot, connect cable and power up and you should now get the second page. If you get a second page then there may be a separate menu item for the eio card. Even if you can not find the menu what you can do is a cold reset with the printer connected with a regular rj45 cable to the router. Turn the printer on while pressing the check mark key until all 3 lights come on solid. If they do not come on solid, then turn the printer on and when the memory starts to count press and hold the green check mark button until all 3 light come on solid. Release and scroll down in the menu to cold reset and hit the check mark button. When the printer comes to ready, wait about 2 minutes and then print the information configuration page again. The second page should now have a ip address which you can use or you can type that address into your web browser and make any changes to it that you want. Keep in mind in both cases you should have a green link light on where the rj 45 cable connects to the card. If no link light, then you may have a issue with the cable or worse the jack on the network card itself may be defective. Just for your information the baking works because many of these cards developed cold solder joints on the main processor and baking reflows the solder to make them work again.
