There are 2 different things you are telling us. In your first post you tell us it defaults to single sided and in the second post you tell us the driver properties under installable options reverts to not installed. Which is it? If the latter, then my only suggestion is to try lets say the postscript driver to see if the installed option stays on installed. If the first where the option to duplex is not there when you go to print, then you need to change the preferences in the driver to duplex where it should also give you the option of which way to duplex.
