I have replaced the toner cartridge #96A in my HP LJ 2100. When I first printed a test page I only got about 1/2" of print at the top. Now after reading some of the posts and cleaning inside as best I can and giving the cartridge the shake, rattle and roll I'm getting about 3/4" at the top darker and half of a page light to it fades out to nothing.
The cartridge I installed was not a HP cartridge. It is an aftermarket one. I emailed the supplier of the problem and they sent me another cartridge and I got the same issues with the second. I also changed the econoprint from 'printer default' to 'off'. That didn't help either. I reset it back to printer default.
To review, the printer was working fine just that the print was fading out giving me the impression I was running out of toner. After several shakes of the cartridge over some days and weeks there was no more to be had. The printer has sat idle for some time without the cartridge replaced as I was using my wife’s printer until it ran out of color toner. Can the unit sitting idle have caused a problem?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Frank
