We have recently had a lot of problems with our printers being extremely slow to respond. They sometimes take 15-20 minutes before a print job starts printing. The problem is expecially bad with HP 4700 color printers, but also happens with HP 4350s.
We noticed two error messages on the color printers: Haltone calibration error and CPR Sensor out of range, which seemed to indicate issues with the printer cartridges, so we tried replacing remanufactured toner cartridges with genuine HP cartridges, but this didn't solve the problem. Sometimes things get a little faster if we turn the printers off and back on again. We are using CUPS for printing and haven't made any changes to it or updated it in quite awhile. This problem started in April and seems to be worse with bigger print jobs.
Yesterday I upgraded the firmware on the 4 color printers that are printing slowly. I don't know if that will help long term or not.
Are there any other suggestions of things we can try?
