Re: intelligent tray selection

You may have to work with the ERP application vendor on this one.  Perhaps ask them if what you want is possible with an HP printer?  The functionality that you are describing does not sound like something you can modify from an HP printer or HP printer driver.  To my knowledge HP printers have no way of intellegently parsing print jobs by name and processing them due to custom rules.  Everything regarding printer preferences must be preconfigured into the print job before it hits the printer.

The best alternative I can think of is to define your document as one paper type or another so that the printer sends the job to the matching tray. For example tray 3 could be normal plain paper and tray 2 could be letterhead.  Only letterhead formatted documents will go to tray 2 and everything else will go to tray 3.  However, you make it seem as though there is no interface to choose custom print settings from the ERP so that idea will not work either.

If the application has no way for you to select and choose printer preferences then all you will ever get is the default printing configuration from the ERP application.

I have never seen print job names logged on HP printers before.  The only place I ever look for that information is on our Print Servers.  Even our print servers do not come with the functionality you describe.  All the print server does is host the various printer objects (queues) associated to the physical printers.  No additional processing features are provided by the print servers themselves.
