In order to have our design software pick the right tray for each different paper, we need to triplicate (once for each tray) the install of this printer (Laserjet 5200tn). We've done this with success on all our XP systems using the disc included with the printers. We're currently in the process of migrating to Windows 7.
First. The disc that came with the printer WILL NOT work in Windows 7. Clicking install results in an empty message box that reads "The system cannot find the path specified" in the title, there is nothing in the message box other than this. We've confirmed that the disc still works by popping it into an XP system. This also happens when trying to install from an image of the disc we have saved to our network.
Second. When manually installing the printer through the Windows 7 interface it goes swimmingly every time. Each instance of the printer installs flawlessly. When we go to Printing Preferences to change the tray settings, only the Manual Feed Tray 1, Tray 1 and Tray 2 are configurable. Tray the shows up but cannot be configured(greyed out).
Third. We've noticed the driver Windows 7 automatically installs is PCL5 while the disc installs PCL6 on all the XP machines. Searching for driver using Windows Update does not return a PCL6 driver. I doubt this has any bearing, though.
Fourth. We've tried installing the PCL6 UPD but that did nothing at all to help.
The printers still work and pull from Tray 3 so there should be no connection issue with Tray 3 and we have two of these printers and it's the same issue with both. Any help is appreciated.
