I assume that what you mean is that instead of a barcode, the printer is printed a series of (perhaps odd) text characters.
If so, this implies:
- The print job is attempting to print the bar-code by using a special bar-code font.
- The bar-code font is either not present, or is invalid, or the selection characteristics do not match those of the required font, hence the printer prints the 'characters' using a defauilt font.
When a bar-code font is used, it may be present on an add-on hardware unit (e.g. DIMM or SD-card, depending on printer), or it may have been downloaded as a soft font (usually at the start of the print job).
To try to determine what is going on, print a small sample (preferably with 'sanitised' data), but select the print-to-file option in the Print dialogue (or equivalent).
Then analyse the captured .prn file using the PRN File Analyse tool in the PCL Paraphernalia application, available via http://www.pclparaphernalia.eu - this should show us just how the job is attempting to print the bar-code.
