OK, I just found the solution! I changed the Black toner cartridge and immediately printed another "Supplies Status" report, which came out in color and told me that my Black was not at 100%. So this printer has an UNDOCUMENTED BEHAVIOR of forcing all printouts to black and white when the Black cartridge is low (apparently trying to kill off every remaining molecule of black toner in the dying cartridge). This is, frankly, insane. It totally disregards my "Prompt" directiive and instead implements the "Print Black" directive from the Color Cartridge "Very Low Setting" menu (that "Print Black" option doesn't even exist in the Black cartridge's "Very Low Setting" menu!).
