You do not tell us the model number. If you have a manual feeder perform a half test. Put a sheet on paper on the manual tray and perform a self test. When the back edge of the paper enters the printer, quickly open the toner door to stop the printing. Remove the toner cartridge and look below. If the defect is present, the issue is still the toner cartridge. If the issue is not present, then the fuser may have an issue. This only applies to printers with toner cartridges that contain their own drum. Since I do not know you model I have no way of telling.
