AT is what you shoud use. The address does not matter 378h or 278h is fine. You are having a communication issue so it could be the cable is bad, the port on the printer is bad or the port on the computer is bad. Also go to the command prompt again and type the following "net use" without the quotes and hit enter. If there is any entry to port lpt1 you then need to type net use lpt1 /delete. The only time there would be an entry is if you had a usb or other printer attached and need to redirect output to lpt1 from an old dos program or application where you could not change the port. If you have another computer connected the printer to it with the same cable to narrow down which item is bad.
