Your issue could be the cable, the port number or even the bios setting of the port. Here is something you can try. At your computer go to a dos prompt by typing command in the run block. Next type cd\windows and hit enter. You should now be at the C:\windows directory. Now type dir >> lpt1 and hit enter. Does the printer now print a directory listing. If it does, then you have done something wrong with your driver installation. If it does not print, then try the same command with lpt2 followed by lpt3. If one of these works you need to change the port in the driver to the correct number. If none work, then again could be an issue with bios setting for lpt port, bad cable, bad port on computer, bad port on printer etc.
