I will add my 2 cents to this thread again. The firmware that caused the 79 error has been pulled from the site. They posted another update which in effect allowed downgrading of the firmware which the firmware that caused the 79 errors to occur did not. Also for everyone who reads this thread, the 79 error caused by the bad firmware was a hard 79 error. In other words the printer would never boot to ready. It would always boot to the 79 error. Even if the printer was not connected to the pc or network when booted it would boot to a 79 error. What is happening is as you said the printer is now old. the 79 errors most likely have to do with failure over time of the formatter and can also be related to print jobs so with the 2605 trying another driver may help as web pages are becoming difficult to print on some printers due to changes in design. Generally using the pcl5 or postscript drivers are better than using pcl6 driver.
