Universal PS drivers not universal?

Reposting from another forum per HP employee response.

In setting up a print server, we are finding that the HP Universal PS driver doesn't work on several models of printer that claim should be compatible.  We want to use the PS driver because we are a cross platfom shop, and have seen time and again that printing from a Mac (which only uses PS) to a Windows server using PCL does not work.  The following printer models don't work properly with the Universal PS despite listing that they should.  In each case they spit an error page instead of or in addition to the print, and in most cases there is only random jibberish no actual error type listed.

I have been unable to find any helpful information about getting PS drivers to work on these or any HP printer that does not list a model specific PS driver but rather PCL drivers.  The only suggestion of note was ensuring firmware is up to date, which we have done.  I'm hoping that there are options in the so called universal driver that can be toggled in a way to make them actually work, which obviously should be documented but I see no evidence of.  I have found a ton of posts from other users with this same issue on these and other models, with no resolution other than not using the PS driver, which again simply is not an answer or option for us.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
