I think I know your problem. There is an issue if you put a network formatter into a printer that is non network. It will initially work, but once the printer is turned off and then back on the network function is now lost. This happens because there is communication between the dc controller and the formatter. Unless a new never used formatter is placed in a network version it will lose the network function since the dc controller writes the information about the printer to the new formatter. When the formatter has previously been used the dc controller can not write correctly and it loses the network function. HP many years ago had a special file they would send to customers who had this issue to enable the network function. They no longer provide the file since the printers are now out of warranty. Your best bet would be to add a internal jetdirect card to the printer which is very easy. You can buy them real cheap on ebay and I would use the 610N or 615N.
