HP LaserJet P4014, P4015, and P4510 Printer series - Printer is slow, hangs at 'Processing Job...', and/or fails to print when trying to print from Tray 2

Issue:

When a print job is sent to printer Tray 2, Processing Job... is displayed on the control panel, the printer continues to ramp up and down trying to print the job (internal pages), and then hangs.

After several minutes the printer will return to a ready state without displaying any error messages, OR on rare occasion the print job might print.

Solution

  1. Print a configuration page to verify that the latest DC Controller firmware (16 or higher) is installed.
  2. Replace the fuser AND upgrade the firmware.

If the DC Controller firmware is lower than 16, upgrade to firmware version 04.060.7 or higher to prevent future occurrences of the issue.

NOTE: The customer should upgrade the firmware even if they are not experiencing this issue as the new firmware will prolong the life of their fuser.

Cause

This issue is caused by the fuser not reaching the proper fusing temperature, which is the reason for the printer continually ramping up and down. The printer is attempting to heat the fuser to the correct fusing temperature to print the job.
