Laserjet not printing with windows 8.1 even with the correct w8 drivers.

I upraded to w 8.1 from w7 and the laserjet isn't printing. I have downloaded the most recent drivers. Device manager shows it working.  Events tab shows lots of events including device started, device configured, etc. (clj1600.inf)

Unplugging the usb makes the printer disappear in device manager which is good.

This worked fine in windows 7.

I don't get an audible tone when I plug the device in. I have tried several usb ports which work with other devices.

It shows in the printers and devices window.

USB001 port is checked under properteis / ports.

I downloaded the ms8 64bit drivers from here
