If the config pages come out blank, the most likely cause is the laser/scanner shutter is stuck in the closed position. Happens is the mech that controls it breaks which is common on older printers. You can run the printer without the shutter. Remove the top cover and the black box in the center is the laser/scanner assembly. Remove it and then remove the shutter which covers the mirror in the front. Put back in and it will work just fine.
