The firmware update utility is not available for MAC systems. You need to borrow a windows based computer to update the firmware. Memory is on the board and can not be removed. I doubt memory is your issue. The firmware will not be corrupt but by updating it is possible hp has made changes to the printer operating system which may or may not solve your problem. You also may want to check your wireless connection or even connect the printer directly to the IMAC is see if it works without error. It is possible the print stream which will be large with heavy graphics may have issues completing successfully over the wireless connection, especially if the connection is weak. Also keep in mind this printer as a regular RJ45 ethernet network connection and you could connect to your router or network and connect using wired network connection to the IMAC.
