The problem you are describing can occur if the Tray 2 Paper Pick-up Roller shaft gets broken.
To tell if it is broken, pull out tray 2 and then attempt to rotate the pick-roller. If the roller rotates freely, then the shaft is likely broken and you need to replace the Paper Pickup Assy:
RM1-6268-000CN-CASSETTE PAPER PICK-UP ASSY, DUPLEX TYPE
or,
RM1-6299-000CN-CASSETTE PAPER PICK-UP ASSY, SIMPLEX TYP
Do you have any idea what could have happened just prior to getting the grinding noise/13.01 jam issue?
If you product is still under an HP warranty, contact support for a warranty repair.
