Connect network cable to printer. Hold down the green button while powering on the printer until you see cold reset in the menu. Release and wait for the printer to come to ready. Wait about 2 minutes and then go to the information menu on the printer and choose the item configuration page. Select and you should get 2 pages, the second page being the network settings for the printer. Use the ip address on that second page to load the printer. You go to add printer, next, make sure local printer is checked and the auto detect is not check and then choose next. On the next page click on create new port and in the drop down choose standard tcp/ip and continue and follow the prompts on the screen to where you will enter the ip address of the printer and when you get to the makers page, choose hp on the left and the scroll down to laserjet 4000 pcl on the right and finish up and the printer should now work. After it works you may want to type in the ip address into your web browser and go to network settings and change the method from dhcp or bootp to manual and save the settings.
