You do not need a service contract. You can replace the pickup roller yourself as it is very easy. This printer replaced the HP 3005N and uses the same pickup roller as the 3005 and believe it or not most times the roller on the 3005 only lasted about 100K before having jam issues. To put this printer in perspective another hp enterprise printer which is more expensive is the 600 series. Maintenance on that printer is set at 225K and that maintenance suggests replacement of pickup rollers, transfer roller and fuser. On your printer only the pickup roller is required at this time as your printer does not have a recommeded maintenance interval.
