I have just purchased an HP 400 M451dw (February, 2014). I run Windows 8.1. I think I have the latest driver version.
In Canada the standard letter paper size is "Letter". I have set all my programs to print on that size. I have set the printer to print on that size too, but it does not readily print. There is no paper loaded in tray 1 (which only holds 50 sheets).
The "Preferences" have paper source set at "Automatically select". Although Tray 1 is empty, when I print it does not automatically go to Tray 2 - it stops and asks me to put paper into Tray 1, which I do not want to have to do. What setting would make it automatically go to Tray 2 when Tray 1 is empty? I notice from others in this forum that this could be a driver problem.
I changed the paper source setting from "Automatically select" to "Tray 2". I have set the paper source in the printer Setup Menu to be Intermediate weight paper, size = Letter, and have loaded Tray 2 with 90lb (intermediate weight paper), letter size paper. The Side Guides and the Front Guide on Tray 2 say, "Letter". After all that, when I print it stops and says, "Load Tray 2 with "Inter A4"! It will only print on my letter size paper when I press OK on the printer panel. Why is it asking for A4 when everything else appears to be saying "Letter" size? How do I fix it?
