I need to find a way to either change the default name of HP 600 series printers that will show in Windows 7 once it's installed or a way to print to muliple HP 600 series printers that are the exact same model under the same exact printer name in Windows 7.
We have a client with 15 HP 600 series printers they just bought to install in seperate offices that will be utilized by laptops with limited access. These laptops will travel from differnent locations and will need to print to the printer at each location.
The laptops all have the same settings and are locked down. The user will print through our software and have the ability to select the printer to print to but they will not have access to the Windows print manager to see which printer is actually plugged in.
The drivers are preinstalled on the laptops so that when they are connected to a printer, it can automatically install. However after each install the printer name is just a generic "HP 600 printer PCL" and with each additional printer that is installed they are named "HP 600 printer PCL (copy1)..(copy2)... ect." So with a laptop that has installed all printers, the user will not know which printer to select for the specific printer they are plugged into. There are hundreds of laptops and it would take too much time to touch every single laptop to go into windows aministrator account and manually rename all the printers.
We need a way to either change the settings on each printer so that when it's automatically installed into windows, it uses a customized name like "Office A HP 600", "Office B HP 600" ect. and if that is not an option to change with the 600 series printers, is there a way to set up the HP driver so that it sees all 15 printers as the same exact printer and disregards the different serial numbers, so that the user can just select the same printer no matter which one they have plugged in?
