Re: Cannot duplex print post script files from 'nix command line

thank you Jim, that worked. oddly enough the info on that page is one of the things i neglected to mention in my op.

the postscript files we are trying to print from the command line are generated on user demand from oracle/peoplesoft and there is a command to print duplex at the beginning of the files.

we have tried editing the files to remove embedded print commands and ended with the same result, not able to duplex print on HP printers unless we run them through a postscript to pdf process. this is also regardless of what drivers we use and how we connect to the printers (i.e. direct via i.p. or using a windows print server host).

we know without a doubt from testing various file formatis that all of the HP printers we have tested against will print duplex from the command line as long as the file is not postscript.

@Matti, i have confirmed and double checked. we have also tested with a Linux HP post script driver and forcing the duplex option using the lpoptions commands that the printer driver recognizes. we have even tried hard setting the duplex option in the printer control panels. it will not print postscript files with or without the duplex option set in the file header.

just for clarification, again...we can duplex print these postscript files on other printer brands using generic Linux universal printer drivers, with and without hard setting the duplex setting with the lpoptions command. and it does not matter how we are connected to the other brand printers, either direct via i.p. or through our windows print server.
