HP LaserJet M601 on Win7x64. Go to Printer Preferences and there is a "Services" tab. On that tab there are two sections: Internet Services and Devices Services.
Under Internet Services there is a drop-down menu with these options:
Online diagnostics
Support and troubleshooting
Product manuals
Check for driver updates
... and a [ Go! ] button which launches a browser and goes to whichever web site is associated with the item selected from the menu.
How can I disable or hide this? I can't have users updating drivers on their own, running diags, or any such thing. That's all managed centrally. An acceptable alternative to disabling or hiding the tab would be the ability to make all of these links point to my company's own IT Support site instead.
Anyway, I found and used the HP Driver Pre-configuration Utility (hpbcfgap.exe) to try to disable this, but it only disabled the Device Services section. I opened the file hpcm6006.cfg in the utility. If I make changes and click Save it doesn't seem to do so. I chose Save as and overwrote the existing file. All other changes seem to take.
I tried looking at the hpcm6006.cfg file to see if I could determine what needed to be changed where, but I'm not seeing it.
I can see having those settings available for consumer class printers, but for a business class printer there should be a(n easy) way to hide, disable, or change these settings as most businesses want their IT staff to do this sort of thing. I've got 55 of these printers going in next month. I'd really like to not have the users, albeit a relative few who will, mess around with these things.
PLEASE do not suggest anything requiring group policy via Active Directory. That simply is not an option.
(Incidentally, I think it's rather amusing that the spell check on this site said 'LaserJet' was misspelled!)
