HP4700 prints dots on every sheet

$

I have read all the posts about the HP4700 causing dots from printing labels. I have had this happen three times now. I just found out it is caused by using other name brand labels. If I purchase HP labels, will this problem still happen?

I can't afford to purchase toner when I need to print labels. As of now, I refuse to print labels.

If I can use HP brand labels without this issue, then I will start printing labels again.

Thanks..

Sue

Perfectly good laserjet 1000 cannot be used with a windows 8 computer/laptop due to the lack of a device driver. Should be a way to make this work.

HP Laserjet M602 external Fonts

Dear Support,

I have an HP LaserJet M602 but when I print with a custom font on this printer it fails.

The prints are completely different then the custom fonts.

I tried to add the fonts 3 .otf file and 1 .ttf file but i can't upload it to the printer.

The printer only wants PCM/PFM font files.

How can i convert my fonts to this type? Or how can I solve this problem?

Kind regards,

Leon Portenge

Have you tried to use the universal driver or the Windows 7 driver?

Don't know the answer (I have no access to LaserJet M602 models), just a few comments:

  • As far as I know, PFM files are Printer Font Metrics files - they describe the font, but do not include the actual font design or character shapes.
  • Similarly, PCM files are collections of PFM files.
  • I think that these files were (and probably still are) used in conjunction with PFA (PostScript Font Ascii) or PFB (PostScript Font Binary) files, which do descibe the font and character design - but possibly only for PostScript (Adobe Type 1, etc.) fonts.
  • OTF (OpenType Font) files are a superset of the original TTF (TrueType Font) files format; they can contain font definitions in either TrueType or Type 1 format.
  • Again, as far as I know, printers do not natively understand TTF files - I don't think that they natively understand PCM or PFM files either).
  • What LaserJet (and clone) printers do understand are various formats of PCL encapsulated fonts.
  • The original PCL fonts were bitmap (fixed character size) fonts, of format 0 (now deprecated) and format 20.
  • In the 1990s, these were supplemented with scalable Intellifont fonts (formats 10 and 11); such fonts are still supported by most LaserJet printers, but none of the printer resident fonts use these formats any more.
  • The scalable fonts used by modern LaserJet devices are PCLETTO (PCL Encapsulated TrueType Outline) fonts (formats 15 and 16).
  • (Some) details of these various formats are provided in the  PCL5 Technical Reference Manual - The following link provides a brief history of the PCL language, and links to the PCL Technical Reference manual, and also to other PCL5 & PJL manuals: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=bpl04568
  • The Soft Font Generate tool in the PCL Paraphernalia application (available via this link) can convert well-formed TrueType format fonts to PCLETTO format (but only if the font licence is not too restrictive).
  • I'm assuming that when you state "...  I print with a custom font ..." that your application has control over the contents of the generated print stream (i.e. it is directly generating PCL5 escape sequences) and is therefore able to control the download and subsequent selection of a PCLETTO font.

Power off the printer. Remove one cartridge. Power back on. You should now be able to upgrade or downgrade firmware if needed. Once completed power off and reinsert cartridge.

To get around this error and update your firmware, remove atleast one toner cartridge. You should be able to boot the printer and not run into the error. If you are unable to find an IP address, you may need to set a manual IP and then access the web interface. Update the firmware and then reinstall cartridge.

When my HP Touchsmart (Win 7) machine bit the dust, I ordered a new HP ENVY 700 series Win 7 Machine. I downloaded the full solution software for my HP CM2320nf Laser printer,  and tried to re-install the software on the new machine. The software instalation hung, and even waiting over night didn't help. I believe it was because the all of the Windows updates had not been installed.

After rebooting and waiting for the rest of the Windows updates, I tried to re-install the software again. I can select what type of CM2320nf printer I have (Fax Model), but when I click on Install software, the entire program crashes, and disappears off the screen.

I have rebooted, Cleaned the registry, checked for spyware/Adware, ran my antivirus software, downloaded the package from a diffrent (Trusted) source,  and everything else I could think of. The software still crashes off the screen. I installed the seperate printer drivers, but cannot get the software for the scanner installed. I need that up and running on my new HP machine. Does anybody have any Idea why the softare keeps crashing, or what I can do to get it to install? Is there a way to download the scanner software seperatly? If I have posted in the wrong area, let me know. This topic seemed the closest to my current problem.

Here is something you can try. On the toner is a small chip which the printer reads to measure toner and tell it is a genuine HP toner. Just remove the chip which is held I think with double stick tape or lodged in with plastic tabs. Once the chip is remove you will get a non hp toner message but just hit the continue or stop button and the printer should come to ready and print just fine.

I'm in the same boat.  Bought new toners $400, but not new enough to take back.  Entre said it needs a new formatter board, but hard to find one.  Also, they would charge 2 hrs time to replace, which probably equals $200 to n$300.  If I can replace it, I'll try to do it myself.

Do you still have the formater board now after over 2 years? If so, I'm interested in buying it.

Re: Does DRAFT (150dpi) mode save toner in a color laserjet?

Here is my visual answer to the question.

Look at the two boxes. Lets say that they are a sqare inch (just magnified).... Don't worry about the lines, those just helped me create the image.

The one on the left, notice how there is more total white space than the one on the right.. The left box represents "4 dpi" (or 4 dots per inch), and the right one represents "16 dpi". Imagine those same circles, aka dots, being even smaller. Lets say so small you cant even see them anymore. Can you see how all the white space would be gone?

What makes the white space disappear? That would be ink / tonor. So, with this being said, I came to the conclusion that a lower dpi would INDEED use less ink / toner. Yes, the circles are bigger, but there are less of them.

-------------------

and to your comment "...it will save toner because the colors will be printed lighter." It will not be necessarily be printed lighter, it will just look lighter due to all that white space between the dots

Limited Duplex Printing CP2025dn Win 8.1

I have problems regarding the duplex printing.

CLJ CP2025dn with actual firmware

Win 8.1 64-Bit

Word 2013 64-Bit

Since a few days i can not use the duplex printing. The printer prints first, second and third site (using duplex) and says then "cleaning" and then "failure print". When I clicked "OK" the printer starts again with site 3, prints 3 more sites (using the duplex) and then same as on the beginning and so on.

I tried to use three actual drivers:

upd-pcl5-x64-5.7.0.16448

upd-ps-x64-5.8.0.17508

upd-pcl6-x64-5.8.0.17508

On a second computer (WIN 7 64-Bit + Word 2013 64-Bit) in the same network it works.

Hello, also other things to look for when it comes to 49 error codes, is make sure the firmware is up to date, as well as, I have noticed while using IE it can cause the 49 error, only if you select print from the toolbar icon. If you click the print hyperlink on the website, it will convert the page to a printable version of the page you want to print.

Just some extra info on this issue.....
